Follows TED-defined system plans to assemble, test, and validate input/output behavior across sensors, AV devices, and control panels. Ensures systems are install-ready, aligned with platform logic, and properly documented for deployment and maintenance.

Responsibilities:

  • Execute the physical integration of hardware systems—including sensors, buttons, controllers, lighting, and networked devices—according to technical schematics and documentation provided by the Technical Experience Director.
  • Assemble, wire, and configure custom enclosures, control surfaces, embedded devices, and interface hardware for simulation spaces and physical-digital installations.
  • Work with developers, technical artists, and AV teams to validate input/output pathways, triggering logic, and sensor responsiveness in real-time environments.
  • Conduct hands-on testing and bring-up of integrated systems, resolving issues related to connectivity, latency, signal mapping, or hardware conflicts.
  • Maintain clear wiring diagrams, system maps, and install documentation throughout the staging and deployment process.
  • Assist in the preparation and QA of install kits, racks, cables, spares, and configuration files for on-site deployment.
  • Support physical installation, calibration, and troubleshooting during system staging, field deployment, and post-launch maintenance.
  • Communicate integration challenges or adjustments to the Technical Experience Director and broader engineering team to ensure alignment.
  • Keep tools, test stations, and workspace organized and safe for physical prototyping and assembly.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent from two-year college/technical school required.
  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university is preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in hardware integration, AV installation, interactive exhibit buildout, or physical computing.
  • Experience with microcontrollers, GPIO, serial/USB protocols, networking, and power distribution for embedded systems.
  • Solid expertise in soldering, wiring, crimping, and basic electrical diagnostics (multimeter, continuity testing, etc.).
  • Experience working with Unreal-integrated hardware systems or other real-time control platforms (e.g., Unity, TouchDesigner, custom AV control).
  • Proficient following wiring diagrams, system schematics, and hardware documentation.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Proven ability to work with sensors, motion platforms, haptics, or custom I/O configurations in simulation or LBE contexts.
  • Experience with troubleshooting instincts and a hands-on approach to problem-solving.
  • Familiarity with AV routing, projection systems, or multi-device synchronization.
  • Exposure to hardware staging environments, fabrication vendors, or tech rehearsals for location-based or live experiences.
  • Experience working closely with engineering, creative, and installation teams in dynamic field conditions.
  • Flexibility to travel for live staging and working on-site for installations, tests, or technical rehearsals.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with internal teams, external vendors, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism.
